About Osada Washi

We manufacture Japanese paper, called “Echizen washi”, a traditional product of Fukui Prefecture.
We are sure that through each product you will feel the soul of Japanese craftsmanship, and the marriage of innovation with time-honored techniques.

Our paper mill is located in Echizen-shi, Fukui Pre.. We first started making fusuma (Japanese sliding doors) paper in the early Meiji era (the late 1870s). We currently make various kinds of paper products. One of them is Hiryu paper.

About Washi Lamp "Sukiakari"

echizenwashi sukiakari

Its Washi is made using a special technique "Hiryu". It was created by grandfather of the present master Kazuya in the late 1920s and has been handed down through three generations.
A piece of paper is wrapped around the acrylic which protects the light bulb. Magnets are used to hold the paper.
Washi makes a beautiful contrast between the light and the shadow and creates special space to heal people.

Light bulb: Japan standard

Size:E26
Small:25w
Extra large:40w
Recommendation: LED Clear Type Light Bulb
(makes the beams through the paper most beautiful)

Note:

  1. Sukiakari is for indoor use only. Do not leave it outdoors, or indoors where it is exposed to rain or winds. Also do not expose it to heat, humidity, direct sunlight or strong light for a long time. It may cause electric trouble or change the color of the paper.
  2. No fire
  3. Be sure to turn off the power supply when replacing the light bulb
  4. Please pay attention to the code when carrying it, and hold it carefully with both hands.
  5. As the characteristics of Japanese paper, it shrinks due to temperature and moisture and the color and texture change with time. We hope you enjoy it as a character of natural ingredients.

How to care:

Do not leave dust on the electric parts.
Please sweep away carefully the dust on the Japanese paper with a soft cloth or brush, etc.
When it gets wet, press a dry cloth to dry it. Then adjust its shape and leave it in the shade to dry. Do not use detergents.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are concerned about scratches, damage, dirt, etc. It is also possible to purchase only the Japanese paper part for replacement.
