Examining Japan's traditional paper trail-The Japan Times.
We manufacture Japanese paper, called “Echizen washi”, a traditional product of Fukui Prefecture.
We are sure that through each product you will feel the soul of Japanese craftsmanship, and the marriage of innovation with time-honored techniques.
Our paper mill is located in Echizen-shi, Fukui Pre.. We first started
making fusuma (Japanese sliding doors) paper in the early Meiji era (the
late 1870s). We currently make various kinds of paper products. One of
them is Hiryu paper.
Its Washi is made using a special technique "Hiryu". It was created
by grandfather of the present master Kazuya in the late 1920s and has been
handed down through three generations.
A piece of paper is wrapped around the acrylic which protects the light bulb. Magnets are used to hold the paper.
Washi makes a beautiful contrast between the light and the shadow and creates special space to heal people.
